Sure, our regular trips rock. But nothing compares to the rush you’ll experience with our Custom Excursions! Take your pick from the California or Arizona hotspots below, and leave the rest to us.

What’s Included
Each excursion is customized to suit your group’s level and interest. Pricing is based on the destination and activities. Transportation, guided instruction and most equipment items are included.

Most trips accommodate ages 17+, but we can also create youth excursions for ages 13-17.

Big Bear Lake House Weekend*
UCR’s 5-bedroom, 7-bathroom mountain home is the perfect setting for recreational and team-building fun. Located in Big Bear Lake, it offers easy access to downtown Big Bear Village, Holloway’s Marina & RV Park, and a variety of activities, such as hiking, biking, kayaking, snowboarding and skiing. Accommodations welcome up to 16 guests. Take a video tour.   Reservations open in July for the following winter and book quickly! (*Early registration required.)

Joshua Tree Day or Weekend Trip*
Explore your way through the world-famous Joshua Tree National Park. Discover a dark tunnel through the rocks, crawl over and under boulders, and peek through natural portholes at stunning valley views. This is a great day trip, but an even better weekend adventure. The 3-day version features a bonfire, camping and an all-day rock climb or nature hike. Optional explorations include “Cave of Winds” (a.k.a. “Chasm of Doom”) or Samuelson Rocks (a 1920s homestead with rock-carved political statements of the day). The day trip includes transportation, parking, camping gear, park entry fees and trip leaders. The weekend version includes all of the above plus meals and camping fees. Yosemite Camping and Exploring*
Don’t miss one of our most popular trips! Travel to Yosemite National Park and experience its famous meadows, giant Sequoias, massive rock faces and breathtaking views. Includes two breakfasts, two lunches, one dinner, transportation, trip leaders, camping fees, park entry fees, group gear and some personal gear. (*Early registration required.)

Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park
Get fit, have fun and create memories with UCR’s time-honored hike! Take in panoramic views of downtown Riverside. Includes trip leaders and headlamps for excursions near sunset.

Hot Springs Hike
Ease into a soothing soak at Deep Creek Hot Springs. Gaze up at the sky and let your cares float away. Then enjoy an invigorating hike with new friends. Includes transportation, parking fees and trip leaders.

Mt. Hollywood Hike and Walk of Fame
Treat yourself to five round-trip miles at Mount Hollywood, home to the world-famous HOLLYWOOD sign. Indulge in 360-degree views of Los Angeles – and maybe Catalina Island if it’s a clear day. Explore Griffith Observatory if the group decides. Then head over to the Hollywood Walk of Fame for a quick meal and possible “star” sighting. Trip includes transportation and trip leaders.


Glide along smooth waters of Newport Bay or Mission Bay and enjoy the always-changing scenery. Includes transportation, equipment, instruction and trip leaders.

Lake Perris Day or Weekend Trip
Join Outdoor Excursions for a day of relaxation at Lake Perris State Park, just 20 minutes from UCR. Kayak, paddleboard, swim or lounge on the beach – the choice is yours! Includes transportation, equipment, park entry fees, and trip leaders. Weekend trip includes all of the above plus camping fees and meals.

Black Canyon Kayaking, Colorado River
Explore the Colorado River by kayak in the Black Canyon of Arizona. Camp near the put in and paddle “up river” to discover new adventures. Explore canyons, climb up waterfalls, cliff jump, soak in the hot springs, visit a sauna cave, and kayak near the Hoover Dam. You must be in good physical condition to participate. Includes transportation, camping equipment and fees, kayaks and gear, meals, instruction and trip leaders.

Beach Camp Multi-Sport*
The perfect California adventure awaits! Swim, bodyboard, paddleboard, and snorkel in the Pacific Ocean, and then sandboard (similar to snowboarding) with a view of the ocean! Finally, relax by the campfire and stargaze from your beachside tent. You must be able to swim. Includes transportation, all activity gear, campsite, meals and trip leaders. (*Early registration required.)

Grab a board and join us for sandboarding fun! You’ll love this unique mix of snowboarding, surfing and skating – complete with an ocean view! Locations include Pt. Mugu for a day or weekend trip with beach camping, or the Mojave Preserve for a weekend trip. Mojave Preserve trips may include a day of caving in the Pisgah Lava Tubes plus a day of sandboarding at Kelso Dunes. Day trips include transportation, sandboards, instruction and trip leaders. Weekend trips include all of the above plus camping and meals.
  Big Bear and Mountain High Snowboarding
Take adventure to the slopes with a snowboarding weekend at UCR's Lake House at Big Bear! Lift tickets are purchased on site or at the OE Shop and are not included. Participants may share the cost of meals, about $15-$20, or meals can be included. Includes transportation, gear rental, accomodations, and trip leaders. This trip may also be done as a day excursion.

Stand Up Paddleboarding
Step up – and onto – the fun of the world’s fast-growing water sport! See the sights, make friends and get in a full-body workout. Includes transportation, paddleboards and related equipment, parking, instruction and trip leaders.

Surfing at San Clemente Pier
If you’ve dreamt of learning how to surf, this is the trip for you! A ground lesson and in-the-water coaching will help you stand on your own and catch a wave! Includes transportation, surfboards, wetsuits, parking, instruction and trip leaders.

Whale Watching at Newport
Breathtaking – that’s the only word to describe this tour! Board a tour boat to view California Gray Whales on their 5,000-mile migration from the cold Arctic Seas to warm Baja waters and back. (The tour company cannot guarantee sightings, but will issue a “Whale Check” voucher to return on your own at no charge if the group doesn’t see a whale.) Birds, dolphins and other marine life may come along for the ride. Includes transportation, a two-hour boat ride with narration, boat fees and trip leaders.
